The number of people using Twitter in Finland?
Out of pure curiosity (and questions posted by @karikorkiakoski and @perttutolvanen), I decided to do some quick Google-based research about the actual number of Twitter users in Finland.
I used a couple of simple queries to run searches based on country name and 5 of the largest cities in Finland to get some numbers that can be used to make rough guesstimates, if nothing else.
Number of users with location info set as “Finland”: 2290 (search query)
Number of users with location info set as “Suomi”: 91 (search query)
Number of users with location info set as “Helsinki”: 1030 (search query)
Number of users with location info set as “Espoo”: 53 (search query)
Number of users with location info set as “Tampere”: 78 (search query)
Number of users with location info set as “Vantaa”: 24 (search query)
Number of users with location info set as “Turku”: 35 (search query)
My guess? A few thousand users at best. More than 4k, much less than 10k.
EDIT: I did a small update on the search queries by including the terms “on Twitter” to limit results to include only users’ profile pages. The new numbers are a bit lower than before.
